F.A.Q.
Jobs
Moving to Banff. Frequently Asked Questions.

Q: I am planning to move to Banff, is it hard to get a job?

A: The ease of getting a job depends on the season. During the year there are a few slower periods of time. April and November are examples of two months were it is the hardest to find work, although ski areas generally need people in these months. Best time to go job hunting is right before the summer, all the buinesses in town need people and you will have the most choice then.

Q: When I move to Banff will I need to bring my computer if I want to e-mail my friends or is there facilities in Banff that provide that service?

A: There is a cyber cafe in town which offers internet access for an hourly rate and internet kiosks located around town also. There is no need to bring your computer if all you need is e-mail.

Coming to Banff; The Exodus. by tha funky fry. So no matter where in the world you’re from, you or someone you know have thought about it. Coming to Banff. Either to live or visit, to party or ski, you can’t escape the lure. I didn’t always want to move to Banff, the west in general always appealed to me but I made it to Banff by a fluke. So I'm submitting this article to help you wannabes out in Banff. How do I get to Banff? Well you go 123km west of Calgary, its just that simple. Getting a ride from the airport isn’t hard just look for a guy that looks like a pimp getting rejected by everyone, he most likely is the Banff airporter rep. and you can catch a ride to Banff for about 30 bucks with him. There are no set ways to get here be creative! Hitch hike, steal a car, take the train the choices are infinite! Be creative! Is it hard to get a job in Banff? Well it’s almost rule of thumb to at least scout for a job before you move anywhere… except Banff. I was hitch hiking from Canmore to Banff one sunny August morning 2 days after I first got here. On the side of the highway I met another guy who was the accountant for a businesses in Banff who was also hitch hiking. By the time we had made it to Banff I had a job! Ofcourse its not quite that easy for everyone to get a job in Banff, but yes there are jobs and lots of them. It really depends on the time of year when you come, this winter for example had very poor snowfall and because of it fewer jobs on ski hills and hotels because of the low tourist turnout. Winter in general is a bad time of year to come to Banff looking for work its there but its not always easy to get especially if your picky about where you work. June, through to the end of September is the prime time of year to hit Banff and look for a job, I’ve heard stories of people being pulled off the street by store owners asking them if they want jobs during the summer. You can check the web but I noticed that compared to what I found when I moved to Banff that there are actually less jobs advertised on the web than in reality. The reason for this is that employers don’t expect you to work in Banff for more than 3 months, if you do they will probably shit themselves and sign you for a year long contract. Is it easy to find a place to live in Banff? Again here it’s a seasonal thing, come in the early spring and fall and you’re almost sure to find a place. But come in July or January and its slim pickings to say the least. This November, my roommates and I were kicked out by the lease holder and had to find a new place to live, we were screwed to say the least. It was only by a fluke that we found a house to live in and were forever grateful for it. An option you can look into is staff accommodation. A good majority of businesses in Banff offer this, however it may sometimes cost you more than an apartment and you don’t get to pick your roommates. You will have them and they won’t leave the room when you want to shag someone you brought home from the bar. If your moving out by yourself or with just one friend don’t count on finding cheap places to live, the average rent per person starts at $800 + utilities for a nice two bedroom. So remember Off season Off to Banff
P.S. pick your roommates wisely or else you might end up with $1200 getting ripped off.

Q. What's it like to actually live in Banff?
A. You know not of what you ask. Despite the fact that its expensive to live in Banff it has to be one of the best places to come and live for young people. Especially if you are like me. I like to party fucking hard (and I like my rock and roll the same!). I come from a small town in Northern Ontario and it was boring the bars were only open 3 nights a week, no major ski hills, no jobs and it was against the law to skateboard! Ever since I’ve moved to Banff my life has been the way I’ve always wanted to. Beer flows while marijuana grows I have a great job and the bars are open every night. Don’t expect to come here and save up money for school while you work cause it won’t work, between expenses and other expenses (beer), you’ll barely get by. But it’s Banff, and it’s one of the best times of your life. Entertainment value is high in Banff too, skate park ski hills and several live acts that you would normally only see in the cities, such as Gob, Choclair, Dayglo Abortions, Maestro, Mastermind, Chixxdiggit and Good Riddance. So come or go whatever you are into you can do it here in Banff. The longer you stay the more diversity you will discover. It’s unlike any other small town on earth.
